Halloween Food Day 28: Skeleton Stromboli

I originally got the idea for making a sandwich cut like this to look like ribs in an old Halloween issue of Taste of Home.  I made it last year for our Halloween party, but we were not terribly fond of the filling.  I made it again this year, but swapped out the original filling for our favorite pizza toppings.  You could also make ham and cheese, turkey and Swiss, Philly Cheesesteaks, or just about anything else with this method.

•2 pounds pizza dough, thawed and ready to go- or use this recipe and cut it into two pieces
•pizza sauce (or any other sauce you want- pesto, spicy mustard, etc.)
•8 oz mozzarella, or your cheese of choice, shredded
•Any meat or fillings you want- I made the stromboli with spicy Italian sausage, green peppers, onions, and jalapenos.

•Preheat oven to 400.

Roll out one pound of dough into a large rectangle, about the size of a jelly roll pan, or 15×11 inches.
Spread half of the sauce over the dough.  Top with half of the shredded cheese and half of the desired toppings.  Roll up and tuck in the ends.  Repeat with the other half of the dough.

Bake for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.  Cool for a few minutes and slice.  Place on a large tray or foil covered piece of cardboard with a skeleton head at the end so that the sandwich looks like ribs.
